JANE EYRE |
Charlotte Bronte |
Classic Novel |
With her 1987 novel, Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte inventeed the Romantic novel of passion and created one of the most unforgettable heroines of all time. Jane Eyre is a governess, an orphan, penniless and plain but full of courage and spirit. Her employer is Mr. Rochester- a brooding, melancholy figure, given to rough outbursts of temper. Their unconventional love story is at the heart of this stormy, intense, and introspective novel which revolutionized the scope of romantic fiction. |
VILLETTE |
Charlotte Bronte |
Classic Novel |
Her heroine, Lucy Snowe, possesses neither beauty nor fortune, but her cool demeanour believes a passionate heart. Friendless and alone in the world, she takes up a position at a girls school in Brussels presided over by the indomitable Madame Beck. There she falls under the spell of the vain, irascible and noble-hearted professor, M. Paul Emanuel. Seldom has the ebb and flow of a love affair been portryed so harrowingly and movingly. In its wit and flshes of poetry, its depth and originality of character, for many readers Villette is Charlotte Bronte's crowning acheivement. I've read "ALL" the books of the Bronte family (From Charlotte to Emily to Anne", even their biographies, early writings, poems. Among all authors I admire Charlotte deeply. To me Villette is her best work, even greater than Jane Eyre. |

GONE WITH THE WIND |
Margaret Mitchell |
Epic Novel |
A remarkable story that centers in the lives of Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler. Before the civil war, during, and after. The movie made is great! I even have a copy of it, but nothing can surpass the book. There are certain things that wasn't shown in the movie. |
SCARLETT |
Alexandra Ripley |
Sequel to "Gone With The Wind" |
One thing I can say is that it's just as good as the first one. If "Gone With The Wind" broke your heart. This follow up would mend it. |
P.S. I LOVE YOU |
Barbara Conklin |
Teen Romance Novel |
This is one of the very first books I read. Before I got into bestsellers and later classics, I started out during my elementary school days reading short novels like this one. And in my opinion it is a very good book, and still remains of the the best. It centers around Mariah and Paul who met one summer at Palm Springs. It's a heartbreaking story. This is the very first book launched by "Sweet Dreams". |
TANDIA |
Bryce Countenay |
Bestseller/Sequel to the International Best Selling Novel "The Power Of One" |
Half- African, half-Indian and beautiful, Tandia is just a teenager when she is brutally attacked and violated by the South African police. Desperately aftraid and consumed by hatred for the white man, Tandia seeks refuge in a brothel deep in the veld. There, she learns to use her brilliant mind and extraordinary looks as weapons for the battles that lie ahead" she trains as a terrorist. But then Tandia meets a man with a past as strange as her own: Peekay, an Oxford undergreduate who is also the challenger for the world welterweight boxing championship - and a white man. And in a land where mixed relationships are outlawed, their growing love can have the most explosive consequesnces... I've read "The Power Of One" also and I love it, but I cannot classify it as a book themed in romance so that's why it isn't included in my list here. The Power Of One by the way, centers on Peekay. |
A TALE OF TWO CITIES |
Charles Dickens |
Classic Novel |
This centers in two cities, London & Paris. Many would say that this is a book centering on The French Revolution. But if you read closely, it's more than that. I read many novels of Charles Dickens, A Tale Of Two Cities is a favorite of mine, and in my opinion even surpasses that of the ever popular "David Copperfield". |
